Decoding Food Labels: What Indian Moms Need to Know

As a mom, you’re a superhero in the kitchen. You whip up delicious, healthy meals every day, but at the grocery store, packaged foods can feel like a minefield of ingredients. Understanding those labels doesn’t have to be a chore; it’s about making smarter, more informed choices for your family. A simple guide to understanding those tiny words on the back of the packet starts with the ingredient list. Remember that ingredients are listed in descending order by weight. This means the first few ingredients make up the bulk of the product. If sugar, refined flour (maida), or oil are in the first three, it’s a big red flag. Look for products that list whole grains, fruits, and vegetables first.

Be wary of hidden sugars, as food companies use many different names to make products seem healthier. Look out for words ending in “-ose” and various syrups. Even "natural" sweeteners like agave nectar and honey are still sugar. When you see "natural" and "organic" on labels, understand that "natural" is a tricky and unregulated term. "Organic," however, is much more regulated and means the product is grown without synthetic pesticides or GMOs. Our GubGub snacks are a great choice because they are genuinely "made with natural ingredients" and "preservative-free.”
While some fats are essential for a child's brain development, others are best avoided. Trans fats are the worst offenders, so look for "partially hydrogenated oil." The goal is also to choose products with low saturated fat content. Finally, many processed foods contain additives and preservatives to extend shelf life. Look for simple, clean labels that state "No Preservatives" or "No Artificial Colors."

By keeping these simple tips in mind, you can become a pro at reading food labels and feel confident about the snacks you choose for your family.

What's Really in Your Child's Snack?

Ever wonder what's truly in those colorful, fun-looking fruit snacks? Let's take a closer look. One of the world’s most popular fruit roll-up brands might look like a sweet treat, but the truth is hidden on the nutrition label. They're often packed with added sugars, palm oil, artificial flavors, and a long list of ingredients you can barely pronounce. In fact, excessive sugar and palm oil consumption has been linked to long-term health risks, including obesity, insulin resistance, and even heart disease. It's unsettling to think that these products are marketed directly to children. That’s why we knew there had to be a better way. We created GubGub a truly clean, fruit-based snack that’s as delicious as it is honest. Our roll-ups are made with just one simple ingredient: real fruit pulp. No additives. No added sugar. No palm oil. Just the pure goodness of nature in every bite.Don't just take our word for it. We encourage you to read the labels yourself. When you compare our nutrition label to a leading brand, you’ll see the difference. And more importantly, your child will feel the difference. Because when it comes to what we feed our kids, clean should be the only option.
